Here are a few examples of my recent work:
Hasbro Showcase Special Publication
I was commissioned as editor of this special supplement promoting the first ever Hasbro Showcase event in March 2016. The turnaround on this publication was very tight, taking just 5 weeks from initial commission to print for 32 pages of editorial.
Richard Jackson’s Garden website
I am the web editor for the award-winning Richard Jackson’s Garden – the website of QVC’s gardener, Richard Jackson. This is an on-going freelance role which involves uploading new content each week, writing blog posts, writing a monthly e-newsletter, managing a Facebook page and Twitter profile and analysing site statistics to help the team plan future content and web development.
LicensingSource.net is a new website for news, interviews, commentary and opinion from the worldwide licensing community. I am a contributor to this website.
The Angry Birds Movie: 28-page supplement
I was commissioned by Max Publishing and Rovio as editor of this special supplement promoting the release of The Angry Birds Movie in 2016. The Angry Birds Movie is a big investment for Rovio and takes the company from being a game developer to an entertainment brand – and this was something they really wanted to emphasis in this publication.
Thomas & Friends 70th anniversary: 68-page supplement
I was the editor of this special supplement which was commissioned by HIT Entertainment to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Thomas & Friends brand. This involved interviewing several members of senior management from HIT Entertainment and various licensees, as well as overseeing the design and approval process.
Mums in business
This is a feature I organised and wrote for Stamford Concept magazine. I made contact with seven local ‘mumpreneurs’, organised a photo shoot and wrote an article about how they juggle running their own business and being a mum.
I wrote this article for the Licensing Source Book about licensing trends in the world of gaming, from app-based games like Angry Birds, to triple-A games like Call of Duty. I interviewed both licensees and licensors for this article.
Royal Horticultural Society website
I worked for seven years at the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) as web editor and digital content manager. Recently I returned in a freelance capacity to help with the migration of content to a new website. This involved editing and rewriting content to make it more engaging for users.
Business profile: Sweet Shoppe Dreams
This is a business profile I wrote for Stamford Concept magazine as part of a series of new businesses in Stamford. These profiles are a chance for the business to promote itself with editorial.
Play time at Paultons
Paultons Family Theme Park opened a new toy shop in April 2014. I was commissioned by Progressive Preschool (a UK trade magazine) to visit and write an article about the new shop from a retailing point of view.
What’s Hot column
This is a regular column I write for Progressive Preschool. It involves contacting four different retailers each issue and finding out what is selling well across different retail categories.
